AGFC Names Jackson Point 2024 Arkansas Deer Club of the Year
Jackson Point Hunting Club, situated in Phillips County, has been recognized by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) as the 2024 DMAP Deer Club of the Year. This prestigious honor acknowledges the club’s dedication to wildlife stewardship and responsible use of Arkansas’ natural resources.
The club’s commitment to habitat management and deer harvest oversight is highly commendable. The property, spanning over 8,000 acres, is primarily timbered, with active harvesting to provide varying forest ages. This maintains excellent cover, food, and space for deer and other wildlife. Additionally, the club manages approximately 350 acres of food plots, which ensures year-round sustenance for the deer population.
The AGFC has worked closely with Jackson Point Hunting Club, particularly through the Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP). This program aims to assist landowners and hunting clubs in managing their local deer herds through voluntary management plans. By collecting rigorous biological and observational data, the club has successfully adapted its harvest strategy to match the changing deer population trends.
- Club members have been diligently collecting quality data, including both biological and observation data every year.
- A trail camera survey is also conducted to identify individual bucks and estimate the number of does on the property.
- In recent years, the club had to significantly adjust its antlerless harvest in response to environmental changes, such as the large influx of deer in 2020 due to flooding.
It is exciting to see dedicated groups like Jackson Point Hunting Club actively promoting responsible wildlife management. Their efforts serve not only the club itself but also contribute to the overall conservation efforts across the state.
The club’s achievements include harvesting 18 deer scoring above 140 gross points on the Boone and Crockett Scale. A special video showcasing the club’s accomplishments was aired at the AGFC’s 2024 Landowner Conservation Awards Banquet in July.
