Ramp Closures Contine in Benton as Interstate 30 Widening Project Progresses
ARDOT announced a series of ramp closures in Benton, further affecting traffic traffic patterns amid the ongoing project to widen Interstate 30 to six lanes. This includes the closure of the South Street on-ramp to I-30 westbound, which was done previously on July 17-18 and again from September 11-12. During these closures, detours will ensure the continued flow of traffic in the area.
The closures are part of the broader CA0601 project, which includes widening 5.5 miles of Interstate 30 from the interchange with U.S. Highway 70 to Sevier Street in Benton. The project also encompasses improvements at the Highway 67 interchange. This effort aims to increase road capacity and mitigate congestion issues in the region.
Key to the success of these efforts are the strategically planned detours. For instance, traffic from South Street seeking to access I-30 westbound will detour onto Highway 229 and use that on-ramp instead. Similarly, traffic on I-30 westbound looking to exit onto Highway 67/229 will continue east, take Exit 116, and return to I-30 west. These measures help maintain the flow of traffic despite the construction activities.
Other notable closures include those at the I-30 East/Highway 70 interchange, which saw overnight ramp closures and a full closure of Pawnee Drive below I-30 from July 8-16. Additionally, the I-30 westbound bridge was demolished during this period, requiring full ramp closures and signed detours.
In response to these changes, the public is advised to be more cautious when traveling through the work zone, being aware of potential slower traffic speeds and noise impacts during nighttime hours. By taking heed of these warnings, drivers can navigate these areas safely while the necessary improvements are made.
