Arkansas Broadcasters Association Announces Hall of Fame Inductees

The Arkansas Broadcasters Association (ABA) has announced the first set of inductees for its newly established Arkansas Broadcasters Hall of Fame. This inaugural class includes five outstanding individuals in the state’s broadcasting industry who have made significant contributions to their communities and the profession.

Leading the inductees is (Broadway) Joe Booker, a prominent figure in Arkansas radio known for his morning show on Power 92 and his role as Director of Programming for all Cumulus radio stations in Little Rock. Booker is also recognized for his community leadership and his dedication to shaping the lives of young people.

Another notable inductee is Bobby Caldwell, the owner and CEO of East Arkansas Broadcasters, the largest group of radio stations in the state. Caldwell has been a crucial advocate for local broadcasting, emphasizing the importance of serving the community with high-quality programming.

Jim Pitcock, a legendary figure in Arkansas television, will be inducted posthumously. Pitcock played a critical role in preserving Arkansas’ history through KATV’s news reels and has left a lasting impact on the state’s media landscape.

B.J. Sams, with a broadcasting career spanning over half a century, will also be honored. Sams started as a DJ and went on to work in television, earning various awards and recognitions. He is also known for his volunteer work at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

The final inductee is Kermit Womack, whose 72-year career began in 1952. Womack founded KURM in 1979 and remained an active part of the community until his retirement earlier this year.

All five inductees will be recognized at the ABA Hall of Fame Banquet during the annual convention in Hot Springs on October 14.
