Benton Animal Services discuss special no kill status award, new facility

Benton Animal Services Earns Prestigious “No Kill Shelter” Recognition

Benton Animal Services has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning the distinction of a “No Kill Shelter” from the Best Friends animal services group. This prestigious recognition signifies that the department has reached a 90 percent save or adoption rate for animals in its care.

Terry Parsons, Manager of Benton Animal Services, is rightly proud of his team’s accomplishments, crediting the staff’s dedication and work ethic for this achievement. Parsons notes that the shelter’s transformation from a 24 percent adoption rate in 2014 to today’s impressive 90 percent rate is a testament to the tireless efforts of his staff and the community’s support. Mallori Howard, the office manager, has also played a significant role in networking with rescue organizations across the country to find homes for the animals.

As the city’s first “No Kill Shelter,” Benton Animal Services stands out among animal shelters in Arkansas. Mayor Tom Farmer highlighted the department’s remarkable progress, saying their goal has always been to provide a loving home for every animal taken in. In the past year, the department has successfully transferred animals to other locations for adoption, utilizing social media and community events to find homes for the animals.

Looking forward, Alderman Shane Knight, chair of the Benton Animal Services Committee, plans to enhance services to maintain and improve the shelter’s high adoption rate. This dedication to animal welfare is a beacon for the community, reinforcing the department’s commitment to being animal friendly and finding loving homes for the animals in their care.

Reaching Beyond the 90 Percent Threshold

The mission of Benton Animal Services extends beyond this achievement, striving to ensure public health, safety, and animal welfare in the city of Benton. Their comprehensive approach includes providing low-cost spaying and neutering for adopted pets, further emphasizing their commitment to being a “No Kill Shelter.”
