Benton Community Services Committee Considers Changes to Firearms Ordinance
The Benton Community Services Committee has begun discussions regarding potential changes to the city’s firearms ordinance. While specific proposals have not yet been put forth, the committee is exploring ways to update the law if approved by the Benton City Council.
In anticipation of these changes, Sheriff Van Arsdall has also purchased 10-round magazines for his staff to ensure they can continue to respond legally while off-duty. Despite concerns about magazine capacity limits, Van Arsdall wants to ensure that survivors, victims, and citizens without criminal histories are not prohibited from possessing firearms.
These efforts reflect the collective approach to community efforts, as seen in the Benton Franklin Health District’s role as the backbone organization for various coalitions and committees. This collaborative framework helps address complex issues and drive positive change.
- Benton County Code and Municipal Code are available online, providing access to current regulations and laws in the area.
- The community remains engaged in discussions about gun control measures, balancing Second Amendment rights with concerns about public safety.
