Benton Fire Department Responds to Two House Fires Over Black Friday Holiday

The Benton Fire Department faced a challenging 30th November as they responded to not one, but two house fires. This unprecedented response highlighted the challenges the department has been facing lately.

The scenes were dramatic as the sun began to set on the Black Friday shopping frenzy. At approximately 4:32 p.m., units were dispatched to the second house fire at 3410 Forge Drive. The urgency was palpable, and both firefighters and residents knew that every minute mattered in such situations.

The residents of 3410 Forge Drive were safely evacuated, while the investigation into the cause of the fire was already underway. “Our top priority is always the safety of our citizens,” said the Fire Marshal. “We are diligently investigating both fires to determine their causes and prevent future occurrences.”

The fire at 3410 Forge Drive is the second major incident reported in a short span over Black Friday. In another part of the city, flames engulfed a vacant house at 864 Unity Road earlier this year, raising concerns about property safety in Benton.

While there were no reported injuries in either incident, the crews’ swift response ensured that the damage was minimized. Firefighters worked closely with local law enforcement agencies, emphasizing their commitment to keeping the community safe from malicious fires.

Fire Safety and Prevention

  • In an effort to enhance response times and fire safety in Benton, the Fire Marshal’s Office has been actively promoting clear house numbering. Properly visible house numbers make it easier for emergency responders to quickly locate a residence during emergency situations.

  • House numbers should be no less than four inches high and in a contrasting color to the house. Reflective numbers on mailboxes or specially designated posts are recommended for houses not clearly visible from the street.

  • Clear and visible house numbers are essential not just for fire departments but for all emergency responders, including ambulances and police services.

Community Support and Awareness

The Benton community has been coming forward in support of these efforts. Residents are encouraged to ensure their houses have properly visible address numbers to help emergency responders do their job more efficiently.

“We urge everyone to take this simple precaution,” said a spokesperson from the Fire Marshal’s Office. “By making our job easier, you’re also contributing to a safer community.” The efforts of both firefighters and residents will be crucial in preventing accidents and ensuring swift responses to emergencies.
