Bryant High School Student Named National Merit Semifinalist for 2025
Jackson Koon, a senior at Bryant High School, has been named a semifinalist in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship program. This prestigious honor recognizes outstanding academic achievements and potential for future success.
Koon’s achievement is part of a larger celebration as five Wilton High School students were also named National Merit Semifinalists: Isaac D. Downs, Robert J. Eskenazi, Hannah L. Hsu, Caleb S. Sharp, and Annabelle X. Zheng. These students were among the top-scoring entrants of the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and represent the top 1% of U.S. high school seniors.
As semifinalists, Koon and his peers have the opportunity to advance to the finalist level by fulfilling specific requirements. This includes submitting a detailed scholarship application, providing academic records, and earning scores that confirm their earlier performances. With about 95% of semifinalists expected to attain finalist standing, the future is bright for these students.
Once finalists are selected, they will compete for approximately 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly million. These scholarships will be offered in three types: National Merit ,500 Scholarships, corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships, and college-sponsored scholarships. National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in April, marking their status as distinguished young scholars.
College Opportunities and Beyond
The University of North Alabama offers special recognition scholarships to National Merit Finalists and semifinalists. These students may be eligible for the Presidential Mentors Academy, which includes leadership development training, peer mentoring, and academic support. Additionally, they may be considered for the Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships subject to specific academic criteria.
Beyond the University of North Alabama, the Cameron Impact Scholarship is another prestigious opportunity available. This full-tuition, impact-driven undergraduate scholarship is granted to 10-15 high school students each year who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, and academics.
