Arkansas Cooperatives Extend Aid to Louisiana for Tropical Storm Francine

The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas have mobilized a significant response to assist Louisiana in preparing for the impact of Tropical Storm Francine. As the storm bears down on the Gulf Coast, the cooperative is leveraging its resources to ensure swift restoration of power.

At the forefront of this effort are 55 professional line workers from Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (AECI), who have been dispatched to Central City, Louisiana. Accompanying them are utility vehicles and construction equipment, which will be crucial in the potential power restoration efforts. These skilled technicians are well-equipped to handle the challenging task ahead.

In addition to these initial responders, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas have placed additional crews and local electric cooperatives on standby. This strategic move ensures that they can quickly adapt to any changes in the storm’s trajectory or ascent in intensity, providing Louisiana with the support it needs during this critical period.

Tropical Storm Francine, positioning itself near Texas in the Gulf of Mexico, is forecasted to intensify into a hurricane before making landfall on the Louisiana coast. This trajectory is expected to bring significant rainfall and strong winds to various regions of Arkansas, with some areas anticipating up to four inches of rain and wind speeds reaching 30 mph.

The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas are comprised of 17 electric distribution cooperatives, providing electricity to approximately 600,000 members across Arkansas and surrounding states. The swift and comprehensive response to Louisiana’s needs demonstrates the cooperative’s commitment to regional cooperation and disaster preparedness.
