Baptist Health College Focuses on Expansion and Education Amidst Nursing Shortage
This year’s Bolo Bash in Little Rock has set its sights on raising funds to update and expand the Baptist Health College, addressing a pressing issue in the state: a shortage of qualified nurses. The college, founded in 1921, offers a range of programs in medical laboratory sciences, nuclear medicine technology, occupational therapy, radiography, surgical technology, and nursing.
Professional Impact
Graduates of the Baptist Health College have gone on to fill critical positions in various health care settings, further underscoring the significance of the school’s mission. Profiles of alumni such as Monica Hall, Emily Brown, Demond White, and Kelley Hamby highlight the diverse and meaningful roles that graduates play in the medical industry.
– Monica Hall, an IV specialist who retired in 2022, built her career spanning multiple departments including neurology, GI endoscopy, and outpatient surgery.
– Emily Brown, clinical director of Joyous OT, is a licensed occupational therapist restoring and promoting function for her patients.
– Demond White, a pediatric nurse at Arkansas Children’s hematology/oncology unit, contributes to the care and treatment of young patients.
– Kelley Hamby, System Chief Nursing Officer at Baptist Health, has an extensive career starting as an information associate and evolving to lead the nursing department.
Community Engagement and Fundraising Efforts
The Bolo Bash Luncheon and Reception, featuring renowned guest speaker Georgina Chapman, co-founder of Marchesa, aims to raise 0,000 in support of the Baptist Health College. Novel initiates to this year’s events include an expanded reception with live demonstrations and a silent auction running throughout the week, opening opportunities for participants and supporters who cannot attend the luncheon.
