Indoor pool at Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center in Little Rock reopening after fire caused 2023 closure

Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center’s Indoor Pool Set to Reopen

The indoor pool at the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center in Little Rock is finally set to reopen by the end of September 2024, marking a significant milestone after a year and a half of closure. The pool was shut down in January 2023 due to a fire that occurred in a 30-foot air conditioning unit, which required extensive repairs and replacement.

The process of replacing the air conditioning unit was a complex and time-consuming task. Officials emphasized that reinstalling such a large unit demands considerable time and effort. Center member May Brown-Williams noted, “I expected it to be available during the first week of September, but somehow it isn’t ready yet.” Despite the delay, patrons can look forward to enjoying the renovated indoor pool by the end of the month, fulfilling a crucial need for the city’s swimming community.

The director of Little Rock Parks and Recreation confirmed that only a few minor finishing touches remain before the renovation is fully completed. With construction nearing completion, the excitement is palpable among center members. Steve James expressed the sentiment of the community, saying, “When it closed, it was disappointing, but we’re really thrilled it’s reopening because Little Rock truly needs a facility like this for our swimmers.”
