Little Rock School District Celebrates 2024 Renew America’s Schools Prize and Grant

The Little Rock School District (LRSD) is honored to announce its prestigious selection as one of the winners of the 2024 Renew America’s Schools Prize and Grant. This esteemed recognition is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) initiative to support public K-12 schools in their endeavors to improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality, ultimately fostering healthier learning environments.

As part of the prize, the LRSD will receive a 0,000 cash award to support its efforts in identifying facilities in need of energy upgrades. Moreover, the district has been invited to enter a cooperative agreement with the DOE, potentially securing an additional million in awards to implement comprehensive energy improvement projects across its schools. This collaborative effort will unite the district with over 100 entities to implement a wide range of projects, including the installation of new heating and cooling systems, building envelope upgrades, and the integration of renewable energy technologies.

The 2024 Renew America’s Schools Prize and Grant, backed by 0 million through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is a hallmark initiative to address the nation’s critical need for school infrastructure modernization. As schools grapple with the increasing frequency of closures due to temperature changes and aging energy infrastructure, the DOE’s program aims to bolster the health and academic performance of students while promoting sustainable practices.
