Volunteer Program Aims to Support High School Students and Conservation

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) has launched a new volunteer program designed to aid high school students in meeting their community service hour requirements while promoting conservation efforts. This initiative supports the state’s mandate that students complete 75 hours of community service to graduate, which went into effect for the class of 2027 and beyond.

This program offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities, such as trail cleanups, fishing derbies, archery tournaments, and more. By participating in these activities, students can not only fulfill their graduation requirements but also gain valuable experience and build their resumes. The AGFC aims to provide diverse experiences that cater to various interests, ensuring that students can find activities they enjoy while contributing to their communities.

To participate, school districts must register on the AGFC’s volunteer web portal. This registration ensures that the necessary resources, including transportation, are considered. Once registered, districts will be notified of volunteer opportunities in their area, and students will receive priority placement for events with limited participation. However, all students can access and participate in volunteer opportunities through the AGFC’s web portal.

The AGFC emphasizes that volunteering not only supports conservation but also allows students to engage with their communities, meet like-minded individuals, and develop valuable skills. By embracing this program, students can make a meaningful impact on their environment while enhancing their own future prospects.

Some upcoming volunteer opportunities include a conservation appreciation day, a fishing derby, and the World Champion Squirrel Cook Off in Springdale. Additionally, students can assist at the Gov. Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center. The AGFC is continually updating its portal with new events, ensuring there are plenty of ways for students to get involved and make a difference.
