Buttered Biscuit Sees Delays in Heights Location, Contemplates Additional Expansion
The much-anticipated second Buttered Biscuit location in the Heights neighborhood of Little Rock has hit a snag. Initially slated to open in the second half of 2024, owners Sam and Anna Russell have pushed the opening date back to early 2025. The delay stems from the complexities of renovating the 100-year-old building at 5018 Kavanaugh Blvd., which faces construction challenges and requires careful restoration. Despite this setback, the couple remains optimistic about the project and its future in the Little Rock dining scene.
The Buttered Biscuit family has been busy in the meantime. Their first Little Rock location at the Promenade at Chenal opened in May and has been well-received by locals. In addition to the Heights and Chenal locations, the Russells are actively seeking real estate for two more Buttered Biscuit restaurants in central Arkansas, aiming to open them in 2025.
In other news, The Buttered Biscuit has been involved in giving back to the community. The restaurant has partnered with the UA Pulaski Technical College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute through “Project Biscuit.” This collaboration includes a ,000 scholarship awarded in the fall 2024 semester, supporting students in the culinary arts program. The partnership also featured a press conference where culinary students had the opportunity to prepare their own versions of The Buttered Biscuit’s signature scratch-made biscuits. This charitable endeavor reflects the restaurant’s commitment to fostering culinary talent in the region.
Overall, while the Heights location faces a temporary delay, the Buttered Biscuit team continues to expand, innovate, and engage with the community, solidifying its position as a prominent player in Little Rock’s culinary landscape.
