The City of Bentonville Announces Final Pass for Storm Debris Pickup
Bentonville, Arkansas, is gearing up for its last and final pass for storm debris pickup following the devastating storms and tornado that struck the city on May 26, 2024. This focused effort comes on the heels of a citywide cleanup initiative that started on June 12, 2024, to remove debris left in the wake of the Memorial Day Weekend storms.
As part of the cleanup process, Bentonville residents are urged to separate the debris into six distinct categories: vegetative, construction and demolition, appliances and white goods, electronic waste, household hazardous waste, and normal household trash. This categorization is essential to ensure a smooth and efficient disposal process.
The city emphasizes that only loose debris will be collected, and bagged debris should not be placed on the public right-of-way. Residents are also advised to avoid stacking debris near low-hanging power lines, street intersections, and within four feet of mailboxes, water meters, fire hydrants, and above ground utility.
Benton County, which includes unincorporated communities, began its debris pickup on June 17, 2024, providing relief to residents outside the city limits. The county’s debris disposal efforts were previously scheduled to end on June 15, but the extension will allow for a more comprehensive cleanup.
In addition to the citywide cleanup, Bentonville has a dedicated disaster information webpage that provides updates on the status of storm debris removal, burn permits, and household hazardous waste collection. This centralized resource aims to keep residents informed and facilitate a simultaneous recovery effort across the city.
As the final pass approaches, residents are encouraged to continue placing storm-created debris on the public right-of-way, ensuring that all remaining debris is collected. The city’s efforts are designed to restore normalcy and provide support to its residents during this challenging time.
