Arkansas State Police (ASP) have cleared a Bentonville police officer in a deadly shooting that occurred during an assault call. The incident, which took place on July 11, 2024, involved Officer Omri-Andrew Nutt responding to a call on Southwest Castlewood Street.

Upon arrival, Officer Nutt encountered the suspect, Nathaniel Mark Crabtree, who had allegedly violently attacked two women in their neighborhoods before the police arrived. The investigation revealed that Crabtree’s aggressive actions led to the officer’s decision to use deadly force, ultimately resulting in Crabtree’s death.

Investigation and Findings

The ASP led the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. As part of their inquiry, they gathered evidence and eyewitness accounts, including footage from a nearby home security system. According to witnesses, the shooting occurred around 6:00 pm on a Thursday, and only one gunshot was fired.

Based on the evidence and the circumstances of the incident, the ASP found that Officer Nutt’s use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law. As a result, the Benton County prosecutor cleared the officer of any wrongdoing, and he was taken off paid administrative leave.
