Bentonville Official Eyes August for Groundbreaking on City’s Adult Recreation Center Downtown
Bentonville’s Parks Director, David Wright, has announced plans to break ground on the city’s Adult Recreation Center downtown in August. The center, an expansion of the existing Downtown Activity Center, aims to provide a comprehensive wellness space for adult residents.
The project has been in the works since June 2022, when the City Council officially approved the adult wellness center as a city project. Since then, the Parks and Recreation Department has been working with Hight Jackson Associates to complete the design phase, which will produce a detailed building and site plan, construction documents, and an updated construction budget.
The center’s design includes several key features to support the health and recreation needs of adults. A significant addition will be the expansion of the indoor swimming pool. Furthermore, the center will boast multiple exercise rooms, a running track, and amenities to enhance the user experience. Flintco has been selected as the construction manager to oversee the project, ensuring timely and efficient execution.
The approval of a grant from Bentonville Revitalization Inc. for .26 million has played a crucial role in funding the project’s next phase. This grant, coupled with a .14 million agreement with Hight Jackson Associates, will enable the project to move forward as planned. The City Council has also approved contracts for related infrastructure improvements, underscoring its commitment to enhancing the community.
As the city gears up for the groundbreaking, residents can expect a significant transformation of the area. With the recreation center’s anticipated completion, the city aims to provide a premier wellness space for its adult population, bolstering the quality of life and contributing to a healthier, more active community.
