Bentonville Infrastructure Projects: Updates and Closures
Bentonville, Arkansas is currently undergoing several major infrastructure projects, including road improvements, water line repairs, and new public art installations.
SW 28th Street is one of the key areas undergoing construction. The westbound lane between SW Featherston Road and SW Been Road has been closed since March 25th for road construction. This closure will continue through June 24th, with a detour available for drivers.
SW 28th Street Widening and Pedestrian Facilities
The SW 28th Street project aims to widen the road to four lanes and add a raised center median. The project will also include pedestrian and bicycle facilities, consistent with Bentonville’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. This project will improve connectivity between Greenhouse Road and SW I Street, reducing traffic congestion on nearby corridors.
Separately, a City Council meeting announced the approval of a grant to fund the design and construction of new residential streets and a community park.
Public Art and Park Improvements
Several other projects are also underway. Visit Bentonville has sponsored a new public art installation titled “Humongous Fungus: A Colossal Crochet Creation” by artist Gina Gallina. Additionally, the City’s Quilt of Parks Project is progressing, with the latest phase including a new multi-modal bridge on NE A Street. This elevated bridge is now open for public use.
Water Line Repairs and Other Closures
The City recently completed repairs on a 48-inch main water line that serves the community. The water conservation alert for residents and businesses has been lifted. Additionally, other road closures include SE 14th Street between SE P Street and SE J Street, as well as NW 4th Street and NE A Street between E Central Avenue and NE 2nd Street, all for road and utility construction.

The Bentonville Public Library is temporarily closed for a two-week renovation period. During this time, staff are preparing for the Summer Reading Program and updating facility amenities. The City is also conducting debris removal and recovery efforts following severe storms on May 26, 2024.
