Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area Hosts Free Astronomy Programs

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area is set to host several free astronomy programs in the coming months, offering visitors the chance to explore the nightlife of the universe. Each program includes an educational indoor component followed by outdoor stargazing using powerful telescopes provided by the Sugar Creek Astronomical Society.

Upcoming Events

Saturday, September 21:
– From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Jack Haynes will discuss “The Future of Space Exploration” inside the park’s visitor center. Weather allowing, the night sky will be open for stargazing, where guests can observe the late summer and early fall constellations, including Cygnus featuring the Northern Cross. Saturn, with its changing angle of the rings, will also be visible. Bring red-covered flashlights and folding chairs for a comfortable experience.
Saturday, November 18:
– An afternoon program from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. is planned, starting with “Navigating the Fall Night Sky” and a photographic review of the October 14 annular solar eclipse. The outdoor observation session will focus on Saturn, Jupiter, and the moon. Recommended items to bring include red-covered flashlights and folding chairs.
