Prayer Walks at Schools
Many individuals have been engaging in prayer walks around schools to pray for protection, teachers, students, and to seek God’s guidance. These walks often involve walking the perimeter of the school with family members taking turns praying. Prayers typically include asking for God’s protection over the school, wisdom and strength for teachers and staff, and for students to be a shining light for Jesus and have a great year.
Prayer walks can be a powerful tool in fostering a sense of community and faith. They can be done even after the school year has begun and can be adapted to the needs of the participants. Additionally, these walks encourage people to be more intentional with their prayers, seeking God’s guidance and strength in every aspect of life.
In some instances, prayer walks can also serve as an important catalyst for personal transformation. For example, one person shared a life-changing experience they had on a prayer walk during a middle school summer camp. The walk, which included stops at stations where leaders dressed up as Bible characters, helped them ask themselves who they were and ultimately led them to follow Jesus more closely.
Prayer walks can be as simple as walking around the block or on a trail, with the intention of speaking to God as if He were walking alongside. They can be paired with exercises like “Praying the Psalms” or “drawing a circle” to make prayers more focused and intentional. These exercises help individuals rely on God’s guidance and seek His power in their lives.
While prayer walks are personal and do not necessarily involve school staff, they can have a profound impact on the faith and well-being of students and their families. By praying boldly and walking for Jesus, participants seek to bring people closer to God and create a more faith-filled community within and around schools.
