Northwest Arkansas Community College Unveils Innovative Center for Trails and Cycling Education

Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) has officially opened its cutting-edge Cycling and Trails Education Center, marking a significant milestone in the region’s outdoor recreation landscape. The new facility promises to elevate the area’s already considerable reputation as a hub for cycling and trail development.

At the heart of this initiative is NWACC’s Trail Technician program, offering certifications in trail development, maintenance, and conservation. Industry experts lead students through an intricate exploration of trail construction, sustainability, and resource management. Furthermore, students can pursue an Associate of Applied Science in General Technology, which can seamlessly transfer to Arkansas Tech University for a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership.

The center also boasts a unique Bicycle Technician program, providing comprehensive training in bicycle assembly, maintenance, and repair. Students can earn a technical certificate in a year, as well as the opportunity to transfer credits to the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith for a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership. The program’s emphasis on real-world skills ensures that graduates are highly competitive in the cycling industry.

NWACC’s innovative approach extends beyond the classroom. The college has developed the Trails and Trades Division, encompassing dynamic programs in construction, skilled trades, and integrated design. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that students gain a holistic understanding of the industries they are entering.

The college’s efforts are complemented by an million grant from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation. This substantial investment will help establish a trails technician program and enhance lab facilities, cementing NWACC’s position as a leader in trail education.
