Brenda Anderson, the chief strategy officer at Runway Group, passed away on November 20, 2024, at her home in Bentonville. She was 65. Anderson’s legacy is deeply rooted in the vibrant business landscape of Northwest Arkansas, where she dedicated her career to creating meaningful public spaces and impactful community development projects.

A Trailblazer in Real Estate and Community Development

Brenda Anderson joined Runway Group in January 2022, bringing with her a wealth of experience from her previous role as the director of real estate development for Blue Crane, Runway Group’s real estate acquisition and development arm. Some of her notable projects include 8th Street Market, Skylight Cinema, The Record, and Blake St. House. Her commitment to revitalizing spaces and fostering local growth was unparalleled.

Awards and Recognitions

Brenda Anderson’s contributions to the community were not only acknowledged by her peers but also celebrated with several awards. In 2021, she was named to the Women in Business class by the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal, a testament to her dedication and leadership in the industry. Most recently, she received the 2024 R.E. “Ed” Buck Award from the Bentonville Area Chamber of Commerce for personifying servant leadership.

Personal Life and Legacy

Born in Cabool, Missouri, to Freda (Flowers) and Louie Killion, Brenda earned a master’s degree in resource planning from Missouri State University. She was an avid cycler, gardener, and reader who enjoyed following bears in Katmai National Park and Preserve. Her family foundation includes her husband, Mike Anderson; three daughters; a son; and four grandsons. In a final act of service, Brenda’s body was donated to science, continuing her lifelong love of learning and education. She requested that others perform good deeds in her memory as an ode to her commitment to the community.

Celebrating Life

A celebration of life will take place at The Homestead at Coler Mountain Bike Preserve in Bentonville on November 24, 2024, at 1 p.m. Guests are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes there. Reserved parking is available at Coler’s north trailhead parking lot on Peach Orchard Road.for those who need assistance.

Brenda Anderson’s impact on Northwest Arkansas will be remembered for years to come. Her legacy serves as an inspiration to all those involved in the various sectors she dedicated her life to, from real estate and community development to mentoring and fostering resilience, empathy, and gratitude.
