Newton County Students Make Headlines

Newton County has been abuzz with exciting news about its students. The U of A’s Honors College recently selected 19 outstanding freshman students, including Casey Christy from Kingston High School, for its Path Program. This program provides financial support and guidance to students from underrepresented populations.

Students in the program receive scholarships of up to ,500, thanks to an endowment of .5 million from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation and generous gifts from several other donors. In addition to financial assistance, they benefit from mentorship, academic advising, and the opportunity to live in Hotz Honors Hall. The program also offers academic and study abroad opportunities.

Academic Excellence Crystallized at Newton High School

Newton High School, in particular, has celebrated numerous achievements. The Academy of Liberal Arts at Newton High School (ALANHS) has announced an open house for the 2024-2025 school year. ALANHS offers various courses and programs, demonstrating the school’s commitment to academic excellence.

STEM Institute Hosts Open House

Another notable event is the upcoming open house at the NCCA STEM Institute, aimed at incoming freshmen interested in the program. This shows the school system’s focus on fostering STEM education and promoting opportunities for students.

Threats and Arrests

Regrettably, some students have made headlines for negative reasons. A 13-year-old student was arrested and charged with making a threat against the school staff and students at one of the high schools. Additionally, a second student was arrested for similar threats. These incidents highlight the importance of maintaining a safe learning environment.
