Gregory Park Trails Closing for Repairs
Two popular trails in Fayetteville’s Gregory Park, Rolling Thunder and Tailwind, will temporarily close to cyclists and pedestrians starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9. The trails will undergo repairs for approximately 7-14 days, depending on weather conditions.
Work Details
The repairs will focus on reworking all berms and jumps, correcting drainage and erosion issues, and reworking the entry and exit points of wall-ride features. During this time, the park’s 0.9-mile outer loop hiking trail, Morning Light, will remain open for visitors.
Maintenance Efforts
The Ozark Off-Road Cyclists (OORC), a volunteer organization responsible for creating and maintaining the trails in Gregory Park, will be overseeing the repair work. The OORC has been instrumental in improving and expanding the park’s trails, including securing grant funding for trail development.
Background
Gregory Park, originally named Veterans Park, was donated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in 1964. It was later renamed in 1978 in honor of local businessman James K. Gregory, who contributed to the establishment of Drake Field Airport. The park has undergone improvements over the years, including new trails and a skills park added in 2018.
Visitor Information
Visitors are advised that signs will be posted to notify park-goers of the trail closures. The park will still be accessible for those who wish to use the Morning Light trail.
