UA Enrollment Reaches Record 33,610 This Fall, a 22% Increase Over Five Years
The University of Alabama has achieved a significant milestone in its enrollment numbers this fall semester. With 33,610 students enrolled, the university has witnessed a remarkable 22% increase over the past five years. This surge in enrollment reflects the institution’s commitment to providing quality education and its growing appeal to students.
Strong Academic Performance and Programs Contributing to Growth
The university’s academic excellence is a key factor in this enrollment growth. The incoming class boasts impressive statistics, with 43.4% of freshmen having a 4.0 high school GPA and a record average high school GPA of 3.87. Additionally, 300 National Merit Scholars have joined the student body. These achievements highlight the university’s strong focus on academic talent.
Continued Support for In-State Students
In addition to its overall enrollment growth, the University of Alabama has also seen a significant increase in in-state students. Among the 33,610 enrolled students, there are 3,184 freshmen from Alabama, representing every county in the state. This marks the university’s fifth consecutive year with an in-state increase, demonstrating its commitment to supporting students from the local community.

The university’s commitment to diversity and research opportunities is also evident in its enrollment numbers. The student body now includes a record 9,342 ethnic and racial minority students, a 9.4% increase from 2022. This diversity is complemented by the institution’s strong research programs, with UA achieving R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity status in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
