The Wampus Cats Roar to Victory
Conway took another decisive win over Bentonville, crushing the Tigers 55-21 in a Friday night showdown. The Wampus Cats dominated from the onset, building a 20-point lead by halftime. This margin proved insurmountable as they thoroughly controlled the final two quarters.
Grayson Wilson, the senior University of Arkansas commit, led the charge, completing 19 of 26 passes for 328 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. His dynamic performances were complemented by solid ground assault, with Trey Harris running for 115 yards and one touchdown. Harris also caught three passes for 37 yards and a score. Alex McCray contributed significantly with three receptions for 168 yards and two touchdowns.
Aerial Supremacy
Conway’s air game was unparalleled, with touchdown passes of 80, 49, and 27 yards, showcasing its ability to exploit its opponents’ secondary. Grayson Wilson consistently found openings and made precise throws to his receivers.
Bentonville struggled to keep up, particularly after falling behind by such a significant margin. Their lone bright spots included Chris Ficklin’s 38-yard run and Tristan Brown’s 26-yard interception return.
Coaching Strategies
Conway coach Buck James emphasized the importance of playing strong in-state teams, praising Bentonville for continuing the rivalry. His strategy to focus on the running game after halftime further demoralized the Tigers.
On the other hand, Bentonville coach Jody Grant’s team failed to capitalize on key opportunities, including a missed field goal attempt, and ultimately, their efforts were overpowered by the Wampus Cats’ relentless offense.
In the end, Conway’s superior performance handed them their second win of the season, improving to 2-0, while Bentonville slipped to 0-2.
