,000 Awarded to Central Arkansas Rescue Transport

To further its mission in pet rescue and transport, PetSmart Charities has awarded Central Arkansas Rescue Transport (CART) a ,000 grant.

CART partners with a coalition of eight Arkansas rescues and shelters to transport homeless cats and dogs from areas of high pet overpopulation to regions with higher demand for adoptable pets. This transport program aims to relieve overcrowding and make more resources available to save lives.

Earlier this summer, CART successfully transported 14 cats, puppies, and kittens from Central Arkansas to a shelter partner in the Chicagoland area. Two of the animals required major medical care, demonstrating the need for support in the program.

The funds provided by PetSmart Charities will be used by CART’s coalition members to cover the costs of preparing animals for transport. This grant underscores the importance of regional partnerships in animal rescue and the need for continued support for lifesaving efforts.

“These transports provide access to additional services that these animals need, but local organizations may not always be able to provide due to limited resources and the overwhelming numbers of animals at risk,” said Tricia Power, director of the Bryant Shelter. “It is through this coalition that we are able to make these important connections to other organizations that may be able to provide the care that we cannot, increasing our ability to save the lives of pets at risk in our area.”

Heidi Marston, director of pet placement initiatives at PetSmart Charities, emphasized the importance of regional partnerships in saving lives. “We’re proud to support CART’s Coalition members, such as the City of Bryant shelter, and their work to ensure adoptable pets find their families as quickly as possible.”
