Arkansas Linemen Arrive in Florida and South Carolina to Restore Power After Debby
As Tropical Storm Debby ravaged across the southeastern United States, Arkansas linemen swiftly responded to the crisis by dispatching teams to Florida and South Carolina. Their mission: to help restore power to the over 100,000 households left in the dark.
With the storm leaving a trail of destruction, Arkansas’s utility companies sprang into action. Entergy Arkansas sent approximately 110 base contractors to South Carolina, while Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas deployed 76 linemen to Florida. These dedicated workers arrived ahead of the storm, ready to tackle the daunting task of clearing debris and fixing power lines.
For Kenneth Holland, a line foreman with Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, this mission was deeply personal. “If a situation like this were to occur in our own community, they would not hesitate to come to our aid, and that’s the principle we uphold,” Holland said. “We are a unique group dedicated to this work.”
Beyond the power restoration efforts, the Arkansas chapter of the American Red Cross was also actively involved. Volunteers from the organization were stationed in Georgia, providing crucial support by distributing essential supplies and serving meals to those affected by the storm.
As the people of Florida and South Carolina struggle to rebuild, the linemen from Arkansas stand as a testament to the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit.
