Arkansas school district to open onsite health clinic

Arkansas School District to Open Onsite Health Clinic

Mainline Health Systems, Inc. is partnering with the Pulaski County Special School District in Little Rock to open a School-Based Health Center (SBHC) at Mills Middle School. The clinic aims to provide comprehensive primary care and behavioral health services tailored to the unique needs of students and district staff.

The new health center will be staffed with a primary care nurse practitioner, a nurse, a patient support specialist, and a behavioral health provider. By placing health services directly within the school environment, students and district staff will have easy access to healthcare without disrupting their academic schedules.

The clinic’s comprehensive approach will include physicals, immunizations, treatment of acute and chronic conditions, lab work, and mental health services like individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and stress management. This integrated health care model is expected to improve attendance rates, promote healthy habits, and increase awareness about preventive care.

According to Dr. Janice Warren, assistant superintendent of equity and pupil services, the onsite health clinic will play a vital role in the commitment to promote health and wellness within the school community. By addressing health issues promptly, the district hopes to enhance academic performance and overall well-being for both students and staff.
