Arkansas State Police Issue Over 200 Tickets in Northwest Arkansas Operation

State troopers launched a comprehensive eight-hour operation on August 23 across Northwest Arkansas, focusing on curbing intoxicated and reckless drivers.

During this initiative, law enforcement officers engaged with 456 individuals, issuing a total of 241 tickets, including 47 for speeding and 29 for hazardous traffic violations.

Additionally, 39 criminal arrests were made, of which 33 were individuals with outstanding warrants.

The operation, which involved two chases and one drug-related arrest, is part of a broader campaign to combat drunk driving leading up to the Labor Day weekend.

This campaign aligns with the U. Department of Transportation’s Highway Traffic Safety Administration program, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”, which spans until September 2.

The extensive effort aims to substantially reduce the number of drivers endangering themselves and others by targeting and deterring intoxicated and hazardous drivers.

Illegal Drug Possession Arrest and More

Aside from the operation focused on traffic safety, state troopers also made a significant drug bust in a routine traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Crittenden County on August 30.

This seizure yielded seven kilos of cocaine, and the driver, 59-year-old Angel Lazala Soto, was taken into custody facing a felony trafficking charge.

Soto was found to be transporting the drugs from Austin, Texas, to New York, concealed in the spare tire area of his 2024 Honda HRV.

His bond status is not currently listed.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of Arkansas State Police to combat drug trafficking in the state.
