Buck James: The Coaching Icon
Buck James is undeniably one of the most successful coaches in Arkansas high school football history. With a stellar career spanning over three decades, he has left an indelible mark on every program he has touched. From his early days in the Monticello School District to his recent stint as the head coach of the Bryant Hornets, James has consistently demonstrated his exceptional coaching prowess.
Throughout his career, James has accumulated numerous accolades, including the Hootens Coach of the Year award from 2011 to 2018. Additionally, he was named the 2012 Coach of the Year by KATV and Coleman Dairy, reflecting his capacity to inspire and motivate his teams to achieve unprecedented success.
In 2015, James was inducted into the University of Arkansas Monticello Sports Hall of Fame, a testament to his significant contributions to the sports landscape in Arkansas. His ability to build winning programs is evident in his management of the Bryant Hornets, where he secured five consecutive Arkansas Class 7A titles between 2016 and 2022.
Before taking the reins at Bryant, James was a coach and assistant athletic director at Little Rock Christian. His extensive experience also includes stints as a head coach in Camden and Star City schools. This wealth of knowledge and expertise has been invaluable in his coaching endeavors.
In a significant career shift, James recently left the Bryant School District to become the head coach of the Conway High School Wampus Cats. This move marks a new chapter in his already illustrious career, promising further success and accolades for the esteemed coach.
