The Highway 113 Relocation Project: An Overview
The long-awaited relocation of Highway 113 near Oppelo, Arkansas, is currently underway. This major project involves the relocation of a 2.37-mile stretch of roadway. The existing highway features two 11-foot travel lanes and six-foot paved shoulders on each side, which will be upgraded to two 12-foot travel lanes with six-foot paved shoulders to enhance safety and efficiency.
Public Involvement Meeting
As part of the planning process, ARDOT conducted a public involvement meeting to gather feedback from the community. The open-house meeting was held at the Family Life Worship Center in Morrilton, giving residents the opportunity to learn about the project and express their concerns in person. Comments were also accepted online and via mail until December 27, 2023.
Project Details
The proposed relocation includes cross drains, erosion control, earthwork, and asphalt concrete hot mix (ACHM) pavement. The new design aims to alleviate erosion issues and improve the overall condition of the road, which is critical for local infrastructure and businesses such as Green Bay Packaging’s Arkansas Kraft paper mill.
Government Support
Pope County Judge Ben Cross provided his support for the project, which is expected to bring significant benefits to the region. Local authorities are working closely with state officials to ensure the project’s timely completion.

Recently, bids were opened for the Hwy 113 relocation project, marking a crucial milestone as the project moves closer to construction. This step is critical in securing the necessary resources and expertise to complete the relocation effectively.
