A Legacy of Love and Protection: Honoring Officer Victor Montgomery
Today, the Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD) gathered to pay tribute to Security Officer Victor Montgomery, who tragically lost his life a year ago while directing traffic at Robinson Elementary School. This week marks a poignant anniversary for the community, which has come together to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who cherished the safety and well-being of students.
Montgomery, affectionately known as “Paw Paw,” was hit by a car on the first day of school last year. His untimely passing has had a profound impact on the district, which has since revised its security protocols to ensure that security personnel will no longer direct traffic unless a crosswalk is available for students.
The family of the late security officer has been a driving force in keeping his memory alive. His wife, Alice, shared how his passing has been met with an outpouring of love and support from the community, reminiscent of the care and devotion he showed to students. “The support we have received from Joe T. Robinson and the security department has been incredible. We have not navigated this journey alone,” she noted.
Victor’s family has chosen to channel their grief into positive actions. His wife, Alice, started a business called “PawPaw Pancakes,” through which she has given away ,600 and four scholarships this year. This initiative reflects the loving spirit that Victor embodied and has inspired others to make a difference in their community.
As students return to school, the loss of “Paw Paw” is indeed felt deeply. Yet, through the stories shared by family and friends, his legacy as a loving person and dedicated protector continues to shine brightly.
