Leadership Development

Dr. Ben Sells, president of Ouachita Baptist University (OBU), emphasizes the importance of developing students’ leadership potential. He shares his optimism about today’s high school seniors, recognizing their God-given potential as a source of hope for the country.

Developing Leadership Potential

Developing leadership includes growing in knowledge, skills, and embracing new opportunities. For instance, during the pandemic, OBU’s decision to have fully in-person classes required gaining knowledge through extensive reading and seeking counsel. Effective leadership is also about enhancing ability and influence and seeking to solve problems.

CBC Leadership Scholars Program

Central Baptist College (CBC) offers a Leadership Scholars Program, recognizing outstanding incoming freshmen for their academic, leadership, and personal accomplishments. Program benefits include staff mentoring, professional work experience, and a full tuition scholarship, renewable for up to four years. Scholars assist the Admissions Office and engage in campus initiatives, providing a valuable life experience and resume building opportunity.

Essential Study Skills for Academic Success

To help students excel academically, CBC highlights five essential study skills: time management and organization, active reading and note-taking, collaborative learning, memory techniques and mnemonics, and test preparation and practice. These strategies, such as creating weekly schedules and utilizing mnemonics, help students optimize their learning experience and retain critical information effectively.
