Academies of Central Arkansas Launches Student-Led Branch in Partnership with Telcoe Federal Credit Union

On August 15, 2024, the Pulaski County Special School District announced the opening of a student-led branch in partnership with Telcoe Federal Credit Union and the Academies of Central Arkansas. This unique initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate business and industry into high school education.

By operating within Maumelle High School, the Telcoe Federal Credit Union Academy of Business & Service will be staffed by students for students and teachers. The branch will offer a range of career pathways, including banking, entrepreneurship, computer science, and marketing, providing real-world experiences for students.

The alliance between Telcoe and the Pulaski County Special School District was facilitated by the Academies of Central Arkansas. This collaboration is part of a larger initiative involving the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce and multiple school districts to pair high schools with businesses and industries, enhancing the learning experience with practical applications.

The Academies of Central Arkansas are built on the Ford Next Generation Learning model, a national framework that combines core academics with career and technical education. This approach aims to show students the relevance of their subjects through the lens of different career fields. Students will participate in career exploration events, job shadowing, internships, and mock interviews, gaining industry-recognized credentials and concurrent college credits.
