Telcoe Federal Credit Union Embarks on a New Era with Student-Led Branch at Maumelle High School

Today, Telcoe Federal Credit Union opens the doors to its student-led branch, aptly named the “Hornet Branch,” at Maumelle High School. This milestone marks a significant collaboration between the credit union, the school, and the Pulaski County Special School District as part of the Academies of Central Arkansas. The branch is unique in that it is fully operated by students under the guidance of Telcoe staff, providing them with real-world experience in the banking industry.

The Hornet Branch is more than just a financial institution; it is a learning hub where students can delve into various roles such as tellers, customer service representatives, account services, loan services, marketing, and more. This exposure will allow students to gain practical financial skills and build a strong foundation for their future careers. Furthermore, the branch’s operation will be supported by Telcoe staff, ensuring seamless integration of the credit union’s services.

Enhanced Learning Opportunities for Maumelle High School Students

Beginning in their freshman year, students at Maumelle High School have been introduced to career exploration through guest speakers, field trips, and hands-on activities. As they progress through the Telcoe Academy of Business and Service, they will engage in job shadowing, career mentoring, and even internships. This comprehensive approach will provide students with a well-rounded understanding of the banking industry, setting them up for success upon graduation.

With the launch of this student-led branch, Telcoe Federal Credit Union solidifies its commitment to empowering young people. The initiative not only benefits the students involved but also contributes to the enrichment of the community as a whole.

A Collaborative Effort

Telcoe Federal Credit Union, Maumelle High School, and the Pulaski County Special School District have come together to forge a partnership that will transform the educational landscape. The Academies of Central Arkansas is a joint initiative that aims to equip students with experiential learning opportunities and real-world experience. With the launch of this branch, all parties involved are-expressed excitement and anticipation for the opportunities it will bring to the students and the community.

This innovative collaboration is indeed a game-shifter, offering students hands-on learning that will set them up for success not only in their financial lives but also in their future careers. As the credit union’s investment in the community grows, so does its commitment to empowerment through financial education and practical experience.

  • Following the announcement of the partnership in May 2023, students have been actively engaged in preparing for the launch of the branch, which was facilitated through Telcoe’s core computer system, Symitar EASE.
  • The partnership is expected to provide both short and long-term benefits for the students, including enhanced employability skills, and a better understanding of financial principles such as managing a bank account and applying for loans.
  • Telcoe Federal Credit Union is a full-service, not-for-profit financial institution with 2 million in total assets, serving over 22,000 members across Arkansas and providing access to services at more than 300,000 surcharge-free ATMs nationwide.
  • By offering financial services to individuals and families in Arkansas, Telcoe is further solidifying its position as a leader in community development.

With the post COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on the financial industry, this collaboration illustrates the power of partnership in fostering positive change.

As the Telcoe Academy of Business and Service continues to evolve, it stands to be a beacon of experiential learning that addresses the need for practical financial knowledge. The Hornet Branch is yet another step forward in the credit union’s mission to inspire financial literacy and empowerment among the youth.
