Traffic stop leads to Conway County drug bust

Major Drug Bust in Conway County

A significant drug bust occurred in Conway County after a traffic stop revealed over 100 pounds of illegal marijuana. Arkansas State Police arrested 44-year-old David Willis from Lower Lake, California, following the seizure of the massive haul.

Stop and Search

The initial traffic stop happened on August 21, when state troopers pulled over a rented black 2023 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Willis. The vehicle was stopped around 4:40 p.m. on Interstate 40 for a traffic violation.

Cache of Marijuana

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered multiple large trash bags in the trunk. Upon inspection, these bags contained vacuum-sealed bundles of illegal high-grade marijuana, ultimately totaling 105 pounds.

Willis’ Route and Charges

According to Willis, he was traveling from California to Knoxville, Tennessee. Following the discovery of the drugs, he was taken into custody and transported to the Conway County Detention Center. Willis faces charges of felony possession with intent to deliver and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.

Similar Incidents

This recent bust echoes another significant drug seizure in Conway County earlier this year. In May, Arkansas State Police seized 434 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop. The driver of that vehicle, Seth Molen, was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
