University of Central Arkansas Announces Incoming Honors Scholars for Fall 2024 Semester
The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) has selected 80 incoming first-year students as the newest class of Schedler Honors College Scholars and 40 incoming first-year students for its Schedler Honors Program for the fall 2024 semester.
These students represent an exceptional group of students, with an average high school GPA above 4.1 and ranking among the top 6% of their graduating class. The Schedler Honors College class includes 111 students from Arkansas and nine out-of-state students, chosen from more than 400 applicants.
The holistic admissions process used to select these students considers not only academic performance but also their writing ability and service and leadership potential. This rigorous process involves written essays, letters of recommendation, and a day-long orientation and interview.
Students accepted into either program will receive supplemental scholarship funding and access to a living-learning community in Jefferson W. Farris Honors Hall. They will participate in a unique interdisciplinary curriculum that incorporates high-impact practices such as service learning, project-based education, collaborative work, and undergraduate research. Exclusive grant funding support is also provided for study abroad, undergraduate research, and internships.
The Schedler Honors College was established in 1982, while the Schedler Honors Program was introduced in 2018 to increase honors opportunities for a growing number of highly motivated students. With these programs, UCA aims to provide enhanced educational opportunities in a living-learning environment designed to develop students as citizen-scholars.
