Arkansas Department of Transportation ramp and road closures and other project operations

Arkansas Department of Transportation Updates on Ramp and Road Closures

Several closures are scheduled across Arkansas as the Department of Transportation continues to improve the state’s infrastructure. Multiple projects are underway, affecting major highways and intersections.

On Towson Avenue, also known as Highway 71B, lanes will be closed throughout July for resurfacing. This project aims to improve the road condition and enhance safety and convenience for drivers.

Interstate 30 Upgrades and Closures

Work on Interstate 30 is progressing, with various closures and detours planned. In Little Rock and North Little Rock, several lane closures are scheduled, while construction continues to widen I-30 to six lanes in Saline County. This project will expand 5.5 miles of I-30, adding two lanes in each direction, from US Highway 70 to Sevier Street in Benton. Additionally, improvements are being made at the Highway 67 interchange.

Specifically, the interchange at Highway 67/229 will see multiple ramp closures, with no more than two ramps closed at once. Flagging operations will manage traffic flow on the frontage roads, which will be reduced to one lane. The South Street and I-30 interchange will also experience closures, with traffic reduced to a single lane along South Street, and the I-30 east on-ramp shut down.

Furthermore, drivers can expect nightly closures on the ramp from I-30 west to I-440 east. The ramp will be closed from 7:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. until June 13 to facilitate bridge repairs. Drivers will be detoured to I-530 and then to I-440. Overnight closures are also set to begin on the frontage road connection south of I-30 to further support the widening project.

Ongoing Construction and Precautions

As construction activities continue, drivers are advised to be cautious, as some areas adjacent to the Interstate may experience noise impacts during nighttime hours. ARDOT is urging drivers to slow down and follow detours, which will be clearly marked. Motorists are also encouraged to plan ahead, check for updates, and use alternative routes when possible.
