Community Spotlight: Fenix Arts Transfigure Series
Fenix Arts, an artist-run non-profit space in Fayetteville, Arkansas, is celebrating the LGBTQ+ community through their Transfigure series. This multi-faceted journey of queer metamorphosis will illuminate the boundless potential of self-discovery, resilience, and authenticity within queer communities.
At its core, Transfigure represents transformation as a revolutionary act, delving into the intricate tapestry of queer lives and histories. The exhibition will showcase dynamic artworks, live performances, and engaging discussions that highlight the diverse experiences and voices within the LGBTQ+ community.
The opening reception, held on June 7, 2024, promises to be a vibrant and inclusive event, featuring musician Lauren Leonard, performance artist Sandrine Schaefer, and delicious food from Cafe Rue Orleans. The evening promises to be an unforgettable celebration of creativity and connection.
The Transfigure series is supported through the Arkansas Arts Council, the National Alliance on Mental Health, and Fenix Arts itself. The month’s programming is the result of a collaboration between artist/curator Amber Imrie and key artist leaders at Fenix Arts.
As part of the series, the Fenix Youth Refuge Experience (F.Y.R.E.) After School Arts Program offers classes for students aged 12 to 18 who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies. Local, professional artists teach classes in various disciplines, fostering creativity and hands-on expression. The program provides a supportive environment for students to explore their identities and express themselves through art.
Fenix Arts continues to be a beacon for artistic expression and community in Fayetteville, and the Transfigure series is another testament to their commitment to celebrating diversity and inclusivity.
