Fayetteville Housing Task Force Holds Inaugural Meeting
On Wednesday, June 26, the newly formed Fayetteville Housing Crisis Task Force convened for its
first meeting. Established by the city council to address the city’s housing crisis, this
collaborative committee brings together diverse experts and stakeholders to recommend
strategies for increasing housing supply and tackling housing insecurity.
Chaired by Mayor Jordan, the task force includes seven to eleven members
appointed from various backgrounds. Some of the key members include Josh Carson, Tommie
Flowers Davis, Bo Diamond, Henry Hohen, Jessica Lewallen, Eleanor Parizek, Robert Sharp,
Keaton Smith, and Nick Thorn, each bringing their unique perspectives on the housing issue.
During the inaugural meeting, members introduced themselves, sharing their motivation
for joining the task force. The floor was also opened to members of the community, who
were given three minutes to voice their concerns and ideas. This open forum allowed
residents to express their needs and expectations from the task force.
Some residents have expressed concerns that the task force lacks representation from
renters, who comprise 60% of Fayetteville’s population. Councilman D’Andre Jones has
responded by proposing a resolution to ensure renters have a voice on the task force.
Jones emphasizes the importance of considering both landlord and renter perspectives to
find equitable solutions to the housing crisis.
The task force’s efforts aim to bring innovative and effective solutions to
Fayetteville’s housing crisis. By engaging community stakeholders and exploring
diverse viewpoints, this collaborative approach hopes to make a meaningful impact on
the availability and accessibility of housing in the city.
