Fayetteville Celebrates Completion of Mural on Nelson Hackett Boulevard
The city of Fayetteville is preparing to host a grand celebration to commemorate the completion of a vibrant new mural on Nelson Hackett Boulevard. This mural, titled “Remembrance,” is a testament to the city’s commitment to enhancing its visual landscape and fostering community engagement through public art.
Dramatically transforming the existing concrete retaining wall, the mural creates a captivating visual narrative that will resonate with both pedestrians and motorists. The chosen artist, Joëlle Storet, has skillfully woven themes of movement, justice, and connectivity into a stunning 90-foot-long work of art.
This project is just the beginning. Over the next five years, the 500-foot-long wall will be fully covered in murals, leading up to Fayetteville’s bicentennial in 2028. The city aims to create a rich tapestry of public art that showcases its history, culture, and resilience.
The celebration, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on June 17 at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center garden, promises to be a memorable event. Attendees will be treated to remarks from Mayor Lioneld Jordan and a special talk by Joëlle Storet, offering insights into her creative process and the inspiration behind the mural. Guests will then be invited to view the mural up close, experiencing its beauty and significance firsthand.
