Aspen Historical Society Hosts Annual Ice Cream Social
The Aspen Historical Society is set to host its annual ice cream social, a community event that has become a staple in the town. The free event celebrates the town’s history and brings residents together for an enjoyable afternoon of food, fun, and socializing.
The tradition of ice cream socials dates back to the mining era in Aspen, when such events served as important social gatherings. The historical society seeks to preserve and celebrate this cultural heritage by hosting the annual event.
This year’s ice cream social will feature a 45-minute presentation titled “A Briefly Complete History of Aspen.” The history lesson will be presented through a combination of song, dance, and character presentations, making it an engaging and entertaining experience for all ages.
In addition to the history presentation, the event will feature ice cream bowls with various toppings and historically inspired boozy milkshakes for adults. The event is made possible by sponsors Obermeyer Wood Investment Counsel, with ice cream provided by Paradise Bakery.
The event will take place on August 3, 2024, from 2–4 pm at the Wheeler/Stallard Museum. To accommodate the expected attendance, guests are encouraged to walk, bike, bus, or carpool, as parking is limited in the West End neighborhood. ADA parking is available onsite.
With a mix of history, entertainment, and delicious treats, the annual ice cream social is sure to be a memorable event for both locals and visitors. It is a celebration that honors Aspen’s rich cultural heritage while fostering a sense of unity and community bonding.
