Investigation Underway

The Fayetteville Police Department received a call around 4 a.m. from the conductor stating they had hit and possibly killed someone near Frisco Avenue. The incident is currently under active investigation.

Incidents like these not only affect the families of the victims but also the train drivers involved. They often carry the trauma and emotional impact of such events with them for the rest of their lives, as seen in the experience of Peter Gutwasser, a German train driver who was involved in multiple fatalities during his career. He now works as a therapist, helping others cope with similar traumas.

Previous Incidents

This is not the first fatal train incident in Fayetteville. In the past, similar incidents have occurred, such as in 2010 when Norman Anthony Jackson, 25, was struck and killed by a CSX freight train, and again in 2011 when Baxter Neal Graham, Jr., 46, was struck by an Amtrak train near the Owen Drive overpass.

Remembering the Victims

These incidents serve as a reminder of the lives lost in such tragedies and the lasting impact on those directly involved. The victims, including the man who recently lost his life in Fayetteville, will be remembered by their families and communities.
