Northwest Arkansas marks a significant milestone with the 10th anniversary of Welcoming Week this September. The month-long celebration embodies a renewed commitment to fostering a sense of belonging across the region. Organized by EngageNWA at the Northwest Arkansas Council, Welcoming Week NWA brings together community partners to emphasize the crucial role of community connections in building a thriving, inclusive society.

Events kicked off on September 1 and continue throughout the month, showcasing the region’s dedication to inclusivity. The official Welcoming Week NWA Launch and Community Celebration took place on Friday, September 13, at Springdale High School. This event featured local students and community partners, highlighting their talents and perspectives.

Throughout the month, a diverse range of events cater to families and individuals of all backgrounds. A few notable events include:

  • Marshallese Cultural Training: A live-streamed event on Wednesday, September 4, where attendees can learn about Marshallese culture and history.
  • Scott Shigeoka: Curiosity as a Bridge for Connection: An evening talk on September 13, exploring the transformative power of curiosity.
  • 2024 Arkansas Immigrant Defense Convening: A day dedicated to building connections among immigrant and refugee residents and service providers on September 19.

These events are designed to be family-friendly, with some requiring registration. By fostering a sense of belonging, Welcoming Week NWA aims to reinforce the importance of an economy that benefits everyone.
