NWA Outdoor Events: Add paddling, Fishing, and Hunting to Your Agenda

Northwest Arkansas is gearing up to offer a range of outdoor activities for nature lovers and enthusiasts. Whether you are an experienced outdoorsman or just looking to try something new, these upcoming events cater to a diverse range of interests and skill levels.

From kayaking lessons for kids to guided fishing floats, these events aim to promote environmental appreciation and conservation while providing opportunities for social engagement and skillbuilding. This comprehensive lineup addresses the needs of both seasoned participants and newcomers alike.

Kayaking and Paddling

Kids aged 6-10 can learn the fundamentals of kayaking at designated events where they will be taught to navigate, stop, and reboard a kayak. Each event will provide youth-sized kayaks and life jackets, ensuring a safe and accessible environment for all participants.

Fishing and Floating

For those interested in fishing, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be hosting a 3.5-mile kayak fishing float on the Illinois River. Participants will be provided with all necessary fishing gear and are required to have an Arkansas fishing license. This event allows participants to enhance their fishing skills while appreciating the natural beauty of the Illinois River.

Hunting and Archery

Additionally, an archery fundamentals class will be held for new archers aged 16 and older. This class covers everything from basic techniques to equipment use, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the sport. In order to participate, registrants must attend all three evenings. Lake Appreciation and Conservation

To celebrate Lakes Appreciation Month, the Beaver Watershed Alliance will host a program discussing the history of the Beaver Lake watershed. This event will focus on the history of lakes, rivers, and the early settlers in the region, providing insight into the environmental importance of these ecosystems.

Other Events

A “Next Level” fishing camp for kids aged 10-15 will be held, offering hands-on lessons to advance their fishing skills over three days. Additionally, a free family community fishing event is scheduled for Lake Hindsville, providing poles and equipment for those who attend.

Registration and Participation

Registration is required for many of these events, and participants are encouraged to sign up early to secure a spot. These outdoor activities offer a unique opportunity for people to come together, learn new skills, and appreciate the natural beauty of Northwest Arkansas.
