Repairs Ahead for Gregory Park Trails
Gregory Park, a popular destination in Fayetteville, Arkansas, will see two of its trails close for repairs starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Rolling Thunder and Tailwind, both 0.3-mile downhill trails, are scheduled to undergo a series of enhancements to improve the overall experience for cyclists and pedestrians. The repairs are expected to last between seven and 14 days, weather permitting.
The volunteer organization Ozark Off-Road Cyclists, instrumental in creating the trails for mountain biking, will be responsible for the maintenance and repair work. The tasks at hand include reworking berms and jumps, addressing drainage and erosion issues, and refinishing the entry and exit points of wall-ride features. While the trails are closed, visitors will still be able to enjoy the park’s 0.9-mile outer loop hiking trail, Morning Light.
During the closure, signs will be posted throughout the park to alert visitors of the trail closures. This effort is crucial in ensuring the long-term sustainability and enjoyment of these trails, which have become a staple of the Fayetteville outdoor scene. Gregory Park, generously donated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in 1964, has evolved with the community’s needs, earning its name change in 1978 to honor local businessman James K. Gregory.
