Residents in East Fayetteville and Goshen asked to conserve water due to growth

Water Conservation in East Fayetteville and Goshen

Residents in East Fayetteville and Goshen have been requested by the City of Fayetteville to reduce their water usage. This plea comes as a response to the growing population in the area and the high demand for water, particularly during early morning and evening hours when people are preparing for their daily routines.

The areas affected by this request are east of N. Crossover Road, primarily around Highway 45 (E. Mission Boulevard) and Highway 16 (E. Huntsville Road). The city is experiencing reduced water pressure in these areas due to the increased demand, especially for irrigation purposes.

To help alleviate this strain on the water system, the city is asking residents to adjust their irrigation schedules to between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. This will allow the water system to recover before the peak morning hours. Additionally, odd-numbered addresses are asked to water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while even-numbered addresses should water on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

This water management plan is in place until September 15, and residents outside of the affected areas are encouraged to also conserve water voluntarily. Fayetteville Utilities Director Tim Nyander emphasized the significant impact that individual actions can have on conserving water, from simply turning it off when brushing teeth to being mindful of general usage.

The long-term solution to this issue lies in the planned construction of a new pump station by fall 2025. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to alleviate the need for water conservation requests in the future.
