School Boundary Dispute Heads to Arkansas Board of Education
A contentious school boundary dispute between the Prairie Grove and Lincoln school districts is set to be heard by the Arkansas Board of Education. The disagreement revolves around a proposal by the Prairie Grove School District to annex approximately 280 acres from the Lincoln Consolidated School District. This move, initiated by local residents, aims to redefine the boundaries and shift territory from Lincoln to Prairie Grove.
Since March, residents have been vocal in their support for the annexation. Considerable opposition, however, has come from the Lincoln side, led by its superintendent. Despite the initial pushback, the matter has now reached the state’s highest educational authority, which will make a crucial decision on the district lines.

In November, the Prairie Grove School Board voted to petition the state board for the change. By doing so, they hoped to address concerns from local families. Those championing the annexation, including Jerry McCormick, a resident of Kelly Mountain Road, believe that the shift would better suit the community’s interests and schooling needs.
Given the historical developments in the dispute, local residents and both school districts are now eagerly awaiting the Arkansas Board of Education’s ruling. The Board’s decision, scheduled to be made on June 20, will have significant implications for both districts and their future academic and institutional frameworks. With the two schools locked in a battle that continues to unfold, only time will tell how the educational landscape of the region will change.
