The Starlight JazzClub Season Returns to the Walton Arts Center
A “jazz lovers paradise” awaits music fans this season as the Walton Arts Center announces the Starrlight Jazz Club series, featuring a diverse range of styles from Caribbean-inspired grooves to Broadway show tunes and standards from the Great American Songbook. This year’s concert series will take place in the intimate Starr Theater, offering cabaret tables and tiered seating for the 7:30 p.m. performances, ensuring an unforgettable experience for attendees.
The series kicks off on September 7 with the Alexa Tarantino Quartet, showcasing the young saxophonist known for her straight ahead, beebop-inspired style. Following this performance, Israeli clarinetist Anat Cohen will return to the Walton Arts Center on October 18, accompanied by jazz pianist Peter Martin and Brazilian jazz guitarist Romero Lubambo for “Rio Meets New Orleans.” This unique evening will delve into the historical connections between Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian music traditions in the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans.
As the season progresses, the series will feature more cutting-edge jazz performances, including Johnathan Kreisberg’s concert on December 6, which will include mostly original repertoire and reinterpretations of jazz standards. Additionally, Rene Marie will bring her distinctive vocal style to the Starr Theater on January 31, 2025, while Matt Wilson’s Good Trouble Quintet will conclude the series on March 8, 2025.
