Trial Canceled for Northwest Arkansas Pediatrician Accused of Rape and Sexual Assault
A trial has been canceled for a former Northwest Arkansas pediatrician who is facing charges of rape and sexual assault involving at least one minor. Guy Rosenschein, 70, was arrested on July 17 for two counts of rape and one count of first-degree sexual assault. The incidents allegedly took place in 2002 and 2006.
Before his arrest, Rosenschein submitted a handwritten motion to dismiss the case on July 5, requesting oral arguments to aid the court in making a knowledgeable and just ruling. At the time, he was incarcerated in a federal correctional facility in Pekin, Illinois. The arrest warrant was executed on July 17, and he subsequently entered a plea of not guilty on July 22.
Rosenschein practiced as a pediatric surgeon and urologist from around 2001 to 2012. An affidavit, which was heavily redacted and submitted in January 2019, provides minimal information about the allegations, noting at least one juvenile victim was involved. The case was investigated by the Springdale Police Department. A hearing regarding his plea is set for September 11.
Rosenschein has a criminal history related to incidents between 2010 and 2016. He pleaded not guilty to all counts initially but later took a plea agreement, pleading guilty to eight counts of the new indictment. On January 31, 2023, he was sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison.
The investigation revealed a hidden room in his house, where law enforcement allegedly located a large quantity of CSAM (Child Abuse Sexual Material) images and videos. Rosenschein had worked as a pediatric surgeon in New York, Arkansas, and Missouri and had a history of befriending young male patients before sexually abusing them. The investigation revealed three alleged victims of sexual abuse committed by Rosenschein, with charges pending in Arkansas related to two of these alleged victims.
U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez described Dr. Rosenschein’s conduct as “shameful and heinous,” emphasizing that such offenses are even more egregious when committed by someone in a position of trust like a pediatric surgeon. The case highlights the ongoing harm caused to victims and the encouragement of the sexual exploitation and rape of minors through such crimes.
